Unions 21 Learning week

At Unions 21 our aim is to facilitate idea sharing amongst unions and share best practice. Our webinars have been a huge success but we want to offer our unions and supporters even more in-depth expertise and knowledge.

Welcome to the Unions 21 learning week. For one ticket you will get access to a week of great webinars. Once registered on eventbrite, attendees will be registered for the webinars on Crowdcast and sent confirmation details. Read more below and make sure to share with your colleagues.

Every webinar will start from 10am and last an hour.

Each webinar will also be available for 30 days after the event to replay on their registration pages.

Monday 8 June: Representing members effectively online

From delaying individual representations to using new technology, the lockdown has meant that unions have had to assess how we represent members when we can’t be in the same room. This webinar will cover when it’s best to represent online; preparing for an online meeting and how to run an online meeting.

With Nadia Motraghi, Barrister in employment, professional regulation and public law at Old Square Chambers, and Victoria Phillips, head of employment rights at Thompsons Solicitors, focussing on Thompsons’ trade union clients.

Tuesday 9 June: Supporting reps online

Face to face is the hallmark of trade union education and rep development. But what do we do when we can’t get people together? How can unions make the shift to remote learning?

With Joanna Cain, Director of Education/Deputy Chief Executive at the Workers' Educational Association, and Helen Russell, Trade Union Training Officer at the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP), where she develops and delivers training for the CSP stewards and safety reps.

Wednesday 10 June: Equal pay and unions - are we effective enough?

It’s been nearly 50 years since the Equal Pay Act was put into law. Unions have been pushing for equal pay before and since. But how effective are we and what are the practical steps that unions can take to ensure equal pay for equal work?

With Cecile Guillaume, Reader in Employment Relations at Roehampton University and Editorial Board Member of the Work, Employment and Society: Sage Journal and Marion Scovell, Head of the legal team at Prospect, specialising in employment law.

Thursday 11 June: Post Pandemic Planning

While unions are rapidly learning to adapt to our current situation how can we keep one eye on the future? What will the landscape for unions look like post pandemic and how can we practise foresight to prepare for it?

With Aida Ponce Del Castillo, Senior Researcher of the Foresight Unit at the European Trade Union Institute and Chris Walton, CEO of the Australian Council of Trades Unions Union Innovation Hub.
